How Texas Mold Rules Work

Texas has stricter mold-work requirements than nearly any other state. If you have a larger job (say at least 25 contiguous square feet), a mold assessor licensed by the state inspects the property and creates a remediation protocol. A licensed remediation contractor, working for a different company, carries out the protocol.
It’s a practical separation of duties: one person writes the scope of work, and a different person makes a living executing it.
We’ll identify which requirements you’ll need to meet well before any work begins.

Our Remediation Process

Containment comes first. We isolate the mold site with plastic sheeting, and we filter the indoor air with negative air pressure and HEPA filtration so it doesn’t move to a clean space. The porous materials that can’t be cleaned (board, insulation and carpet pad) are carefully bagged in the containment. Structural framing and other surfaces are HEPA vacuumed and cleaned, then the space is dried and inspected before construction.

“Step we skip” is the cause. Killing the mold but ignoring the leak/ humidity source just gets you ready for the next inspection. We find the moisture source to plumbing, the roof, an AC drain line or inadequate ventilation and repair or tell you who to call.
After the work is complete, the walls are tested for cleanliness to ensure the space is clean after walls are reinstated. You receive photos and paperwork for your records or future sale.

Mold Remediation FAQs

Can I just spray bleach on the mold?

On tile or other non-porous surfaces, small spots can be cleaned. On drywall or wood, bleach mostly lightens the surface while growth stays inside the material, and it does nothing about the moisture.

“Black mold” usually means Stachybotrys, but color alone can’t tell you the species. Any indoor mold growth should be removed, especially if someone in the home has asthma, allergies or a weakened immune system.

Often only when the mold came from a covered event, like a sudden pipe burst. Many Texas policies limit or exclude mold from long-term leaks. We can help document the cause for your claim.
